TEMPE, Ariz.– Insight Enterprises has partnered with the nonprofit organization FreedomIsNotFree.com to donate two Super Bowl XLII tickets to U.S. Marine Corps Gunnery Sergeant Mel Greer and his wife, Donna, in honor and recognition of his dedication and service to our country.
Insight learned about Gunnery Sgt. Greer through FreedomIsNotFree.com, whose mission is to aid wounded troops, their families and the families of the fatally wounded. “We are proud to be donating our Super Bowl tickets to Gunnery Sgt. Greer,” said Rich Fennessy, president and CEO of Insight Enterprises. “It is our way to show our appreciation of our service men and women who so heroically defend our freedom and we are honored to have Gunnery Sgt. Greer join us on Super Bowl Sunday.”
Gunnery Sgt. Greer has served in the U.S. Marine Corps since 1989 and is the recipient of more than 16 awards and citations including four Bronze Stars and the Purple Heart. On October 16, 2004, during his second tour of Operation Iraqi Freedom, Greer was wounded while conducting a vehicle check point, sustaining multiple AK-47 gunshot wounds in the leg. Greer underwent 12 surgical operations and is still undergoing medical treatment for his wounds.
Having been seriously injured and recognizing the need, Greer requested the assignment to serve at Camp Pendleton, Calif. in the Wounded Warrior Center. This 26-bed center is geared to service members in long-term rehabilitation who are out of the hospital but not well enough to return to their units or the civilian world.
