Levytator Escalator Can Round The Corner

The escalator is something that we see and use on a near-daily basis. It was created back in the nineteenth century and there really has not been much significant change to its design since it was first thought up. However, that’s all about to change with the creation of a new type of escalator called The Levytator.

The Levytator is a freeform escalator. It is made from a series of curved modular units that form a loop. It has the ability to work very much like the escalators that we are used to. However, the curved design of the Levytator makes it possible to shape this escalator in more unique ways than the traditional staircase shape that we’re used to. In fact, the Levytator can be made to turn corners.

This could have huge implications for new design options when it comes to escalators. The escalators themselves could be shaped differently which may be useful for multi-story buildings and could certainly be aesthetically interesting. Building design could also be more interesting if it didn’t have to rely on the straight up-and-down nature of the escalator.

It is also important to note that the steps of the Levytator do not have to remain a uniform shape, size and incline. They can flatten out and then shape back up. This means that escalators could be made for hillsides and other odd terrain. This has the potential to increase accessibility in areas where some people may have been previously unable to go due to various limitations. It also means that theme-park style tours of buildings and areas may be possible using this new technology.

There are still some details that have to be worked out before we see something like this in action in locations near us. However, it’s definitely a step forward for escalator design!
