Designer Has Kids Drawn on Her Clothes
By JustCool on Oct 13, 2009 in Cool Kids
Vivienne Westwood is well-known in the fashion world for pushing the boundaries of her work. She has challenged models and fashionistas alike to think twice about what beauty means to them. Westwood is credited as being a major leader in bringing punk rocks styles and New Wave styles into mainstream popularity. The point here is that she isn’t shy about doing things differently than they’ve been done in the past. Still, she really surprised people a couple of years back when she let children paint on the clothing that she sent down the runway at Paris Fashion Week.
Westwood herself says that children are just so creative that it’s necessary for us to turn to them sometimes in order to get inspired about what we’re doing. She says that these children all have a little genius in them and also that they "just get on with things". As adults, we often get so wrapped up in the product that we’re trying to create that we can’t enjoy the process and the result ends up being stale. Vivienne’s approach here was definitely cool.
And you know what else is cool here? The kids who submitted their designs for the show. I would imagine that these are stylish kids (the kind of kids who are wearing Jean Bourget and Room Seven and making a real fashion statement in their everyday lives). But, more importantly, these are cool kids who are willing to put themselves out there and to show the whole world what their vision is. Very cool!
