College Grad With IT Career Goes Construction
By JustCool on Sep 9, 2007 in Cool Jobs, Cool People

You know how most of us wish we were doing something else for a living… but before you know it… you are in the middle of "your career" and you really don’t have the courage to make any bold moves?
Well I know this guy who followed a similar path. He went to college, got a degree in marketing from a respectable university and when computers become the hot thing back in the late 1970′s, he went to an IT school and entered the IT industry.
Over the next 25 years, he developed a solid IT career with a major energy company in the southwest, then started a successful small business with a couple other techies based on a patented recommendation system they developed. But through it all, he thought being in construction would be cool — better than being stuck in the office.
So at the age of 51, he pulled the trigger, becoming partners in a concrete business. Now he gets up at 4:15am so he can be on the job as early as possible because by noon its going to be 105 degrees. He gets home so tired and sore he can’t even pet the dog. Heck he’s even learning to speak Spanish (for obvious reasons).
He couldn’t be happier. He’s the one in the yellow hat. Pretty darn cool.
