Vintage Shuffleboard Postcards Capture History
By JustCool on Oct 17, 2009 in Cool Pictures

I was just browsing around on the Internet trying to get some information on how to play shuffleboard when I came across a really cool product. It’s a series of vintage postcards that feature images of people playing shuffleboard. I am a huge fan of vintage postcards but I’ve never really seen ones that depict this particular subject before. I can’t believe that they’re all together in one place for people to see.
Shuffleboard is an interesting game. It’s one that has a lot of history behind it. It is an ancient game that was once only played by royalty. It eventually gained popularity as a sport for the elderly but it’s also a game that can be played by young rowdy folks in bars. Despite its long and involved history there doesn’t seem to be a huge collection of photos of shuffleboard archived anywhere.
These postcards provide the start of just such an archive. They depict old time images of people out on shuffleboard courts enjoying the game. You can browse through the photos and imagine what the lives of these people might have been like. How fun! I’m sure that there are postcard collectors out there who would love to get their hands on these but I hope that fans of the sport find them first.
