Life’s Top Ten
By JustCool on Jan 1, 2008 in Cool Stuff
Over the last 25+ years, I have attended many business seminars and read many business and motivational books. Some how I managed to hang on to my notes over the years, which allowed me to complile and create the following Top Ten List. I call it "Life’s Top Ten". It’s a new year, I hope you get a little inspiration from it…
1. You are a miracle. Take a moment from time to time to remember that you are alive. I know this seems obvious, but it is amazing how little time we take to reflect on this amazing fact. By astounding luck, an incredibly small portion of all the matter in the entire universe came together to create earth and us humans. You will only exist for an incredibly small time in the great span of eternity — treasure this great gift. You are unique in this world and you have a wonderful opportunity to see and feel and think and do – so do them all!
2. Be nice. Don’t ever make the terrible mistake of thinking yourself more significant than anyone else. Many people will be there to help you – often without you ever knowing. So be a little less critical and a little more tolerant of other people, their faults, failings and mistakes. Place the best possible interpretation upon their actions. If you are not in the habit of being extremely nice to everyone, then get in the habit now.
3. Participate. Don’t make the foolish mistake of thinking that winning is everything. That’s just wrong. Taking part and doing your best is the main thing. There is no shame in not winning. The shame is in not trying to win. (But be gracious in defeat.)
4. Don’t cheat. Don’t cheat on tests, taxes, your partner, or Monopoly. Don’t cheat at anything. It’s not worth it. It is often said that cheaters never prosper. Actually many of them do. But they almost always get caught in the end – and the price is enormous.
5. Quit worrying. If you can’t change it, don’t spend time worrying about it. You should strive to completely ignore and close your mind to all those pessimistic and negative issues that you can do nothing to change.
6. Be happy. Practice smiling at least three times during the day. It’s not that hard. You have a million things to be happy about. You are bright, healthy, live in a democracy, and are surrounded by people who care about you. You have your whole life ahead of you. In fact, you will always have your whole life ahead of you and you should never forget it!
7. Be successful. Insofar as possible, act like success is inevitable, and that you are already the sort of person you want to be. Practice “acting like” and “feeling like” that person. Regardless of what happens, react as calmly and intelligently as possible.
8. Strive to be modest. People are always much more impressed if they find out on their own that you won the Olympic Gold Medal than if you wear it around your neck.
9. Just do it. Whatever it is you want to do in life, do it. If you aspire to be a celebrated musician, carpenter, architect, or whatever, just go for it. Even though some may say you can’t sing, build or draw, try it any way. There is nothing worse than reaching the age of 50 and saying “I should have_________”. Go and climb Everest if that is your true desire.
10. Memorize: I am a person of integrity with a good attitude and specific goals. I have a high energy level, am enthusiastic, and take pride in my appearance and what I do. My convictions are strong and I have a healthy self-image, a passion for what is right, and a solid hope for the future. I am an honest, sincere, hardworking person. I am a good listener and patient, but take decisive action. I am health-conscious, balanced and sober. I am a person who is truly grateful for the opportunity life has given me. Tonight I’m going to sleep wonderfully well. I will awaken energized and refreshed, and tomorrow’s going to be magnificent!
