Order for the Person Behind You at Mystery Cafe
By JustCool on Nov 27, 2009 in Cool Travel

You walk into a restaurant and place your order. Let’s say that you order a big plate of noodles and veggies. Your order arrives and it’s a sandwich. Of course you would take it back to the server and let them know that it wasn’t what you ordered. But what if that was the point? At the Kashiwa Mystery Cafe in Japan you actually get what the person who ordered before you ordered. So the person before you ordered the sandwich that you are now supposed to eat. The noodles and veggies that you ordered will go to the person who comes in and places an order after you. That odd dining method is the entire point of this wacky restaurant.
You definitely have to be an adventurous eater if you’re going to enjoy dining at a restaurant like this one. You can’t be too picky. Vegetarians would be likely to have some trouble eating here as would people who have many food allergies. It’s also clearly not a good place to eat if you’re really in the mood for a specific dish. But if you’re up for an adventure then this restaurant could be really fun.
I can picture going here with a group of friends and ordering one at a time, trying to guess what the person behind us would like to have (or ordering something odd to dare them to try something new!) I can also see going alone and having fun trying to guess who in the restaurant ordered the food that I ended up with. This is definitely one of those totally wacky concept restaurants that you’re unlikely to see outside of Japan but it’s got a creative edge to it that’s really cool.
